» CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character NAME: Ashley Greenwick
Canon & MEDIUM: Sirens; Television Show
Canon PULL-POINT: End of episode 3, I.C.E.
Character AGE: 25? Based on his actor's age 8|a
Character ABILITIES: Ashley is an experienced Emergency Response Technician, and as such as fairly expansive medical knowledge, as well as the ability to be calm in emergencies. He is also immune to disgust by blood, shit, urine and corpses. Which is totally an ability. He also has a panty-dropping Scottish brogue, but other than that he's mostly average joe.
Character HISTORY: A very basic synopses of the show can be found here. There are extensive spoilers for episodes 1-3 below. Also contains mentions of triggers such as suicide and trauma. The show also has themes of a sexual nature, which are also touched on, especially with Ashley!

The series "Sirens" itself, takes place in modern day Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. There are no variances from 'our' Earth, to the one pictured in the television show, other than the show is all fictional.

Very little of Ashley's personal history is ever demonstrated, or mentioned in the show. However, through his own comments and through comments of other characters, there are some things that we can derive about his past.

Due to his thick accent, we can assume that Ashley was born somewhere in Scotland, though at some point he and his mother (and possibly father, though his father is never mentioned in the show) moved. He seemed to have moved to Leeds, as his mother still resides there, and so does at least one of his old schoolmates, much to Ashley's displeasure. Ashley himself admits that his childhood school years were troubled ones, and he was the victim of serious bullying over his sexuality. Whether or not this caused turbulance with his family is also sadly never mentioned, however Ashley claims a very close relationship with his mother, unable to deny her much of anything and as such she obviously supports her son in his preferences despite her deep religious feelings.

It is unclear whether or not he came out during this time, however it is suggested that Ashley moved out on his own to pursue secondary education, though where he took his education is never touched on. It his however, mentioned that he spent some of this time exploring his own sexuality and attending a few wild parties.

At some point, he made the decision to take on a medical career, and landed himself a career with the West Riding Ambulance Services in Leeds. Here, he met Stuart Bayldon, and spent the next two years working closely with him. They became relatively close friends, working well together, as well as spending time together out of work. When the series begins, Stuart and Ashley have been assigned a trainee to their ambulance, a man by the name of Rachid Mansaur. At first, Ashley and Rachid have a bit of friction, as Rachid demonstrates he doesn't seem to have very much respect for Ashley's divisions of privacy, however, working together the three of them soon develop a considerable bond of companionship.

Their day to day lives consist of what one would expect in such a line of work. They rush to emergencies trying to make a set Government standard (an eight minute response time), while also dealing with the drams of their own lives.

In the first episode, the trio are called to a very serious car crash, where Stuart performs an open heart massage to revive the patient. Their supervisor finds out about this act, and the three are sent to meet Kirsty, the resident counsellor. Kirsty quickly establishes that the three are in a hierarchy, but lets the matter go in favour of discussing the stressful experience the three of them endured. She explains that after what they've experienced, they are going to go through a series of mood swings because of the adrenaline their bodies were flooded with during the crash response. Stuart calls it 'Up, Horny, Down,' and he isn't far off. Stuart declares that he is a master of his own biology, and can ignore his natural hormonal responses. Ashley is mostly quiet, only making one statement about how they've experienced it all before.

When Ashley returns from his shift, he discovers that his apartment has been broken into, and all of his electronics have been stolen. He isn't upset about this though, as he is, as he puts it 'insured to the hilt' and sees this more as windfall than as a negative. He then borrows his neighbours laptop to order some casual, no strings attached sex. He accidentally debases an educated black man to a stereo type for the sake of his own male power fantasy, and winds up tied up naked in his own closet for it. Though, this happens after Ashley is satisfied. He calls Rachid to rescue him, and while Rachid is helping to untie his ankles Stuart shows up, just in time to catch Rachid and Ashley in what appears to be a compromising situation, at which point Ashley has a serious 'I hate my life' moment.

They return to work to attend their next shift, at which point they hit the 'down' of their mood swings. Incidentally, they are despatched to a man balancing on the wrong side of a bridge, and threatening suicide. Ashley declares that Stuart can examine the man's bleeding wrists, as he and Rachid are 'too depressed' to deal with it. The episode concludes with the end of their second shift, and the conclusion of their 'Up, Horny, Down.'

In episode two the theme of the episode revolves around Stuart dating, as well as the dynamic between Rachid and Ashley, and how Rachid constantly asks Ashley for private information that he has no interest in sharing. His sexual preferences, and the reasons for why he's gay are constantly pressed upon by Rachid, until Ashley reaches a breaking point and chooses to ride on a different ambo to be away from Rachid's inane questions. While riding along with Carl, another ambulance driver Ashley is called as back up to an apartment fire, where Rachid and Stuart are already attending. Stuart climbs the scaffolding outside the building to reach the mother and daughter trapped on their balcony. After the excitement concludes, Ashley attempts to trade numbers with a police officer in attendance, who happens to be Maxine's partner. Maxine being one of Stuart's long time friends from school. The cop declines trading numbers with Ashley- until the next time they meet.

After a long shift with Carl, Ashley returns back to his original crew, and he and Rachid reach a somewhat better relationship after Ashley explains that he wants Rachid to stay out of his business. Despite what he says, this is a backwards way of Ashley opening up to Rachid a little as well.

Episode three begins with Rachid's first discovered suicide, and this pulls apart Rachid's perceptions of life and death to a point of crisis. He becomes obsessed over the concept of an 'In Case of Emergency' contact, or I.C.E. and how he doesn't have one. Ashley assists in dealing with this as he deals with most things; with deflection, sarcasm, and mocking. Despite this, when Rachid later reaches his greatest moment of crisis, Ashley does go unhesitatingly to his aid.

When Stuart asks Ashley who his I.C.E. contact is, Ashley explains that his emergency contact doesn't know they are his emergency contact, but it's the person he wants by his side when it really matters.

Rachid's girlfriend leaves him, and Rachid hits his ultimate crisis point, calling Ashley and claiming that he's dying. shley rushes to help his him, and arrives to console Rachid over his break up. It isn't so much the break up that has traumatized Rachid, though, it is the thought of dying alone. Ashley talks him through this, and then time passes, and Rachid returns to work. At the end of the episode, the boys are called to an elderly man whom has already passed. Here, it is revealed that Stuart is Ashley's I.C.E. contact. It is at the end of this shift that I'm drawing Ashley from.

Character PERSONALITY: First and foremost, Ashley is a very private person. He likes to keep his business as his own business. He separates church from state, family from work, and work from friendship- well, he tried that last one anyway, it didn't work out so well. He's happy in his life, and enjoys his own time, and space. His desire to keep his own matters private can make him come across as a bit prickly at times, but for the most part Ashley is just a decent, average bloke.

Ashley is a naturally sarcastic person, however, he uses sarcasm for a number of reasons. He uses it of course, to be humorous, but he also uses it as a defence mechanism. In times of great stress, or serious discussion Ashley's first instinct is always to deflect the matter, and he often uses sarcasm to do this. This isn't to say he can't take matters seriously,

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Upon arriving in Exsilium, your character will be given the option to choose a weapon of their own from a wide array of weaponry. This weapon will be their primary device with which they train, and will grow alongside them to assist them in battle or otherwise. This is where you can tell us what that weapon will be.
Chosen SKILLSET: He's probably not particularly combat oriented. He's better at picking up the pieces and making sense of the mess afterwards.

» SAMPLES
First PERSON: Choose a weapon? What kind of stupid question is that? We all know my weapon is my cock.

[ He rolls his eyes, and exhales slowly as his head tips back. Going through the motions of processing the absurdity of all of this, a large part of him is still expecting to wake up.

Contemptuously, he mutters:
] This is ridiculous.

[ And then, louder. ]

Okay, okay. Joke's over, all right? This is the part where I say Stuart's the brains of the operation, Rachid is the brawn, and I'm the pretty one. [ The flat, unimpressed sarcasm in his tone is almost palpable. ]

I don't know who you are, and what you think you're playing at, but I have better things to do than mess around with your fantasy LARPing nonesense. You've taken the piss, now fuck off.
Third PERSON: We would like to see a prose example of your character's actions within a setting. What we are looking for here is their own personal motivations, their thoughts, and their personal introspection. Must be a minimum of two full-length paragraphs.
